Dudley marks ten years of same sex marriage

Dudley Council is marking the 10-year anniversary of when the first same sex marriage ceremony was held in the UK.

Same sex marriage became part of UK law in July 2013, with the first same sex marriage ceremonies taking place at the end of March 2014.

Dudley Registrar’s hosted their first ceremonies on Saturday 29 March 2014, the day that the marriages could first be held.

Penny Fulford, superintendent registrar at Dudley Council, said:

“The 10-year anniversary of same sex marriage in the UK marks an important milestone for equality in our society.

“We’ve married more than 250 same sex couples at our register offices over the last 10 years, and we continue to welcome more couples to formulise their love and union here with us.”

Dudley Council offers registry wedding venues at the Thomas Robinson Building and Priory Hall.
